Condition
Some customers may comment on a stain on the rear tonneau lid, noticed when the roof is retracted and the tonneau is exposed. The stain is commonly found centered on one or both of the forward hump surfaces of the tonneau lid.
Cause
The cause of this condition may be the rear glass sunshade bleeding its dye onto the rear tonneau and the paint absorbing this dye due to the paint curing process at Bowling Green Assembly. This will typically be noticed on lighter colored vehicles, however, it may occur on any color vehicle.
Correction
A transparent protective tape is being installed on convertibles that are painted white or yellow at the production facility, beginning with production on September 17, 2012.
To correct this concern, polish/refinish the rear tonneau and add two pieces of transparent protective film using the procedures below:
1. Following manufacturer specific instructions, use a light rubbing compound to remove the stain.
2. Polish the area.
3. Confirm that the stain is removed. If the stain is removed, apply one piece of transparent protective film, GM P/N 23117964 over the affected areas at each location to prevent the stain from reoccurring.
If the stain is still present after using the light rubbing compound, do not apply the protective film until continuing with the remaining steps.
4. Wet sand the affected area.
5. Refinish the panel using the appropriate base and clear coat.
6. Allow to dry fully, then apply one piece of transparent protective film, GM P/N 23117964 over the affected areas at each location to prevent the stain from reoccurring.
