Tie Rod Replacement

J-42188-B - Ball Joint Separator

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair

2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer toTire and Wheel Removal and Installation Removal and Replacement.




3. Loosen the adjust link jam nut (1).

4. Loosen the tie rod nut.




5. Using the J-42188-B - Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the tie rod from the suspension knuckle.




6. Remove the tie rod nut (1).

7. Remove the tie rod from the suspension knuckle.




8. Remove the tie rod (1) from the adjust link.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the tie rod (1) to the adjust link.

2. Install the tie rod to the suspension knuckle.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the tie rod nut (1) and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft) + 120 degrees.




4. Tighten the adjust link jam nut (1) to 65 Nm (48 lb ft).

5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer toTire and Wheel Removal and Installation Removal and Replacement.

6. Inspect the rear wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement Wheel Alignment Measurement.
