Passenger Side Air Bag Suppressed
DTC B0058 00
-
Passenger Pretensioner Suppressed
Circuit/System Description
When the ignition is turned ON, the passenger presence system (PPS) and the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) performs tests to diagnose critical malfunctions within itself. The PPS is used to monitor the weight of an occupant in the front passenger seat. If the pressure from the occupant's weight is less than a specified value or an empty seat is detected, the PPS module will send a suppress signal to the SDM to disable the passenger instrument panel air bag. When the PPS detects a fault within itself, then the PPS will communicate to the SDM through serial data communications that a PPS fault is present. The SDM will suppress the deployment of the module and then illuminate the AIR BAG indicator.
DTC B0056 sets because the PPS commanded to suppress the passenger instrument panel air bag when the vehicle was involved in a collision and the SDM has commanded an air bag deployment.
DTC B0057 sets because the PPS commanded to suppress the passenger seat side air bag when the vehicle was involved in a collision and the SDM has commanded an air bag deployment.
DTC B0058 sets because the PPS commanded to suppress the passenger seat belt pretensioners when the vehicle was involved in a collision and the SDM has commanded an air bag deployment.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
This DTC sets when the SDM has commanded an air bag deployment while the PPS has determined that the front passenger seat has one the following conditions:
* The pressure from the occupant's weight is less than a specified value. The PPS module sent a suppress signal to the SDM to suppress the passenger instrument panel air bag.
* Empty front passenger seat
* A PPS fault was detected
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* DTC B0056 and B0058 will only set if there is a child seated or the passenger seat is empty.
* DTC B0052, B0053, or B0055 will set along with this DTC.
* The SDM requests the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to illuminate the AIR BAG indicator.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
Any of the codes will set along with one of the following latched codes: DTC B0052, B0053, or B0055 and cannot be cleared.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition OFF, verify that the vehicle does not show any signs of air bag or pretensioner deployment.
• If the vehicle displays any signs of deployment, refer to Repairs and Inspections Required After a Collision Service and Repair.
2. Verify DTC B0052, B0053, or B0055 is not set.
• If DTC is set , refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle.
3. Clear DTCs. Verify DTC B0056, B0057, or B0058 is not set.
• If DTC is set, replace the SDM.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the diagnostic procedure.
