1. Remove fill and drain plugs and front yoke. Discard yoke seal washer and nut.

2. Turn transfer case on end and support front case on wooden blocks, then shift to "4 Lo" position.

3. Remove extension housing, then remove and discard mainshaft rear bearing snap ring.





4. Remove rear retainer and pump housing. Discard pump housing seal.

5. Remove speedometer drive gear and the pump gear from mainshaft.

6. Remove rear case attaching bolts and separate rear case from front case by prying with screwdrivers at slots provided in case ends.





7. Remove front output shaft and chain as an assembly.

NOTE: Raise the mainshaft slightly to provide clearance for removing the output shaft.





8. Lift mode fork rail until it clears range fork, then rotate mode fork and rail and remove from case.





9. Remove mainshaft, then the planetary assembly with range fork from case.





10. Remove planetary thrust washer, input gear, thrust bearing and front thrust washer from case.





11. Remove shift sector detent spring, retaining bolt, the shift sector, shaft and spacer from case.





12. Remove locking plate from case.

13. Remove inner gear pilot bearing using tool J-29369-1 and a slide hammer.

14. Remove front output shaft seal, input shaft seal and rear extension seal using a brass drift or screwdriver.





15. Remove the two front input shaft caged roller bearings from case using tool J-33841 and J-8092.





16. Remove front output shaft rear bearing using tool J-29369-2 with J-33367 or a slide hammer.

17. Remove rear mainshaft bearing from rear retainer, then remove front output shaft bearing snap ring and the bearing.

18. Remove extension housing bushing using tools J-33839 and J-8092.
