WATER LEAK IN THE DOOR MODULE AREA
Model and Year:
1988-91 C/K TRUCKS
Some owners of 1988-1991 C/K trucks may comment on a water leak at the door module vent valve, at the door module, or between the door trim panel and door onto the primary weatherstrip. The cause of the water leak may be that the door module does not provide a water tight environment.
To correct this condition, it is necessary to apply a sealer (P/N 12345739, sealer) between the door module panel and the air pressure relief valve (Figure 1), to install a redesigned foam seal (P/N 15697102) between the door and door module panel, and install water deflectors (P/N 15697103) to the door module panel.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the door trim panel (refer to "Door Trim Panel Replacement" in the appropriate Service Manual) and water deflector.
2. Remove the six rivets that secure the air pressure relief valve to the door module panel (Figure 1).
3. Apply approximately a 2 mm (1/8 in.) bead of silicone sealer (P/N 12345739) around the perimeter of the relief valve.
4. Install six rivets to secure the air pressure relief valve to the door module.
5. Remove the door module mounting bolts.
6. Remove the lock and handle rods from the back of the module and tape the rods to the door.
7. Remove the current foam seal from the door (Figure 2).
8. Install the new foam seal (P/N 15697102) to the door.
9. Install the water deflectors (P/N 15697103) to each of the harness openings on the door module (Figure 3).
10. Install the lock and handle rods to the door module.
11. Install the door module mount bolts.
12. Install the door module water deflector.
13. Install the door trim panel.
