Defect, Vehicles, Owner, Dealer and Parts Information
DEFECT INVOLVEDGeneral Motors has determined that certain 1988 K 10-30 series light duty model trucks were built with incorrect front shock absorber upper and lower nuts. These nuts could loosen, resulting in some noise and if ignored or undetected by the operator, eventual shock absorber detachment at the upper mount will occur. A detached shock absorber could come in contact with the front brake hose. This contact could result in a leak in the hose with a resulting loss of the front brakes. A reduction of braking ability at a time when minimum stopping distance is required could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
DEFECT INVOLVED (CONT'D)
To prevent this condition from occurring it will be necessary to replace the existing free spinning nuts with prevailing torque nuts on all involved vehicles.
