Defect Involved - Vehicles Involved
General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Chevrolet K 15/25 pickup trucks. These vehicles may have fender skirt splash shields contacting the front brake hoses. This contact can cause wear on the brake hose, eventually resulting in a failure of the front hydraulic brake system. When failure occurs, the rear brake system still functions, but increased stopping distances will be required. Loss of front braking at a time when minimum stopping distance in required could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
To correct this condition, it will be necessary to modify the fender skirt splash shield and replace the brake hose on both front sides.
