Road Test Procedure
Perform road test following given sequence, keeping in mind that shift points will vary with actual throttle sitions and driving habits. Compare results of test with speed shift chart information.
Drive & Reverse Engagement Shift Feel
1. Start engine and depress brake pedal.
2. Move gear selector from Park to Reverse, Reverse to Neutral and Neutral to Drive, ensuring gear selections are immediate and not harsh.
Upshifts
1. Place gear selector in Drive and accelerate, using a steadily increasing throttle pressure.
2. Note shift speed point gear engagements for second and third gear.
Part Throttle Downshift
At vehicle speeds of 40-55 mph, quickly depress accelerator to half-open position and ensure transmission immediately to second gear.
Full Throttle (Detent) Downshift
At vehicle speeds of 40-55 mph, quickly depress accelerator to wide open position and ensure transmission immediately to second gear.
Manual Downshift
1. At vehicle speeds of 40-55 mph, release accelerator pedal while moving gear selector to second gear (2). Ensure transmission immediately downshifts to second gear and that there is an engine braking effect.
2. Move gear selector back to Drive (D) and accelerate to 25 mph, then release accelerator pedal while moving gear selector to first gear (1). Ensure transmission immediately downshifts to first gear and that there is an engine braking effect.
Coastdown Downshift
With gear selector in Drive, accelerate to third gear, then release accelerator pedal and lightly apply brakes, noting shift points for downshifts.
Manual Gear Range Selection
1. With vehicle stopped, place gear Selector in second (2) and accelerate, noting first to second gear shift point.
2. Accelerate to 25 mph and ensure a 2-3 upshift does not occur.
3. With vehicle stopped, place gear selector in first (1) and accelerate to 15 mph, ensuring no upshift occurs.
4. With vehicle stopped, place gear Selector in Reverse and slowly accelerate to observe reverse gear operation.
