Fig. 9 Engine Front Cover Installation:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect power steering pump reservoir from fan shroud and position aside.
3. Release drive belt tension, then remove upper fan shroud, fan and water pump pulley.
4. Remove alternator, brackets, brace and front bracket.
5. Remove crankshaft pulley, hub bolt and the hub.
6. Loosen lower radiator hose clamp at water pump and reposition as needed.
7. Remove front cover bolts and the front cover.
8. Remove front crankshaft seal.
9. Thoroughly clean front cover and block sealing surfaces, then apply a continuous bead of RTV sealer, 3/16 inch wide, to cover sealing surface and oil pan joint.
10. Position centering tool No. J-34995, or equivalent, in front cover seal, mount front cover on block, Fig. 9, then install and partially tighten 2 oil pan to front cover bolts.
11. Tighten front cover attaching bolts to specifications.
12. Reverse remaining procedure to complete installation.
