Transmission Leak at Rear Extension Housing and Prop Shaft (Install New Grease Sleeve and Seal)

MODELS:
1991-95 Chevrolet and GMC Truck G Vans
with 1991-94 Hydra-Matic 4L60 Transmission (RPO MD8) and 1993-95
Hydra-Matic 4L60-E Transmission (RPO M3O) "CBD and CJD" Broadcast Codes

CONDITION (Figure 1)



Some owners of the listed vehicles with a one piece prop shaft built before October 7, 1994 (Julian Date 280) may comment about a leak at the rear extension housing. This is most noticeable when the vehicle is parked facing up-hill.

CAUSE
This condition is due to a lack of a grease sleeve on the output shaft.




CORRECTION (Figure 2)
Order and install a new grease sleeve (690) and seal onto the output shaft. The prop shaft seal (03764601) is to be pre-installed into the inner lip of the sleeve (690) Refer to your Service Manual for proper replacement procedures.
