Upper Ball Joint Replacement
Removal
^ Raise the vehicle and support it with suitable safety stands.
1. Tire and wheel.
2. Rivets from the ball joint (115).
A. Brake hose and bracket (142), upper control arm only.
B. Use a 3.175 mm (1/8-inch) drill to cut a 6.35 mm (1/4-inch) deep hole in the center of each rivet.
C. Drill the rivet heads away using a 12.7 mm (1/2-inch) drill.
D. Using a pin punch remove the rivets.
3. Pin (130).
4. Nut (129).
5. Ball joint (115) from the knuckle (117).
^ Support the knuckle.
6. Ball joint (115).
Installation
1. Ball joint (115) to the control arm.
2. Bolts (B) and nuts (A) to the ball joint .
Tighten
Tighten nuts (A) to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) for K1-2, and to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.) for K3
3. Ball joints (115) to the knuckle (117).
4. Nut (129).
Tighten
Tighten nut (129) to 115 Nm (84 ft. lbs.).
Nut (129) must be tightened with the control arm at 'Z" Height.
Tighten the nut to align the cotter pin. Do not tighten more than 1/6 turn.
5. New pin (130).
^ Bend the pin ends against the nut.
^ Lower the vehicle.
^ Check front end alignment.
