Diagnostic Information

ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS
This system has a sophisticated diagnosis system, that when accessed with a bidirectional ``Scan'' tool, is designed to identify any system fault as specifically as possible, including intermittent faults. There are 58 fault codes used by the system, refer to the ``Trouble Code Description'' for code identification. Each input and output to the system can be monitored by using a suitable bidirectional ``Scan'' tool, monitoring inputs and outputs allows for fault confirmation and repair verification. The ``Scan'' tool can also be used to manually control components and perform functional tests.

ENHANCED DIAGNOSTICS
This information is found in the ``CODE HISTORY'' function of the ``Scan'' tool, and is used to provide specific fault occurrence information. This data is stored for each of the first five and the very last fault code, the data stored identifies the specific fault code, the number of times the fault occurred and the number of drive cycles since the failure first and last occurred (a drive cycle occurs when the ignition is cycled ``ON'' and the vehicle is driven faster than 10 mph). If a fault is present, the drive cycle will increment by turning the ignition ``ON'' and ``OFF.'' The order that the first five fault codes occurred can be useful in determining if a previous fault is linked to a more recent fault. This data can also be used to determine how often and under what circumstances the fault occurs.
