Circuit Operation

The Cruise Control system for the Diesel Engine operates in much the same manner as that for Gasoline Engine. However, fuel flow is controlled electronically for the Diesel Engine rather than air flow control by throttle cable as with the Gasoline Engines. The functions of the Gasoline Engine's Cruise Control Module are incorporated in the Diesel Engine's Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM also provides a high engine speed limit which is not available in the Gasoline Engine's Cruise Control Module. Diagnostic Trouble Codes DTC-71 for prolonged voltage (over 25.5 seconds) on the Set/Coast input and DTC-76 for prolonged voltage on the R/A input are also provided by the PCM. The PCM will disengage Cruise Control for either DTC. Refer to Engine Controls. Computers and Control Systems
