Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor:
DESCRIPTION
The accelerator control system is an electronically controlled throttle type with an accelerator pedal attached to an accelerator pedal position module. This module sends signals to the powertrain control module which controls the fuel injection pump.
OPERATION
The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) module contains three potentiometers (a device for measuring an unknown voltage or potential difference by comparison to a standard voltage). Each of the APP sensors send a varying voltage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). By monitoring the output voltage from the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) module, the PCM can determine fuel delivery based on the accelerator pedal position (driver demand).
