Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair
WARNING Failure to disconnect the negative battery terminal may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle's components. Turn OFF the vehicle Ignition, unless instructed otherwise.REMOVAL PROCEDURE
^ Disconnect the negative battery cable under the following circumstances:
^ When installing an electrical unit.
^ When a tool or equipment could easily come into contact with "live" exposed electrical terminals.
1. Remove negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Removal.
4. Remove the sensor mounting bolt.
5. Remove the sensor from the engine.
CAUTION Take care when handling the sensor. Damage to the sensor will affect the operation of the injection timing control system.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Lube the new O-ring with engine oil.
2. Install the sensor in the engine.
3. Install the sensor mounting bolt.
Tighten
^ Tighten the mounting bolt to 25 Nm (17 lb ft).
4. Connect the sensor electrical connector.
IMPORTANT Ensure that the PCM electrical harness is properly routed to avoid contact with the Engine Cover during installation.
5. Install the Engine Cover.
6. Connect the negative battery cables.
7. Refer to PCM Programming (TDC Offset Adjustment). This procedure must be done when a crankshaft position sensor is replaced. Service and Repair
