EGR Valve: Service and Repair

WARNING: If the Exhaust Gas Recirculation EGR valve is hot, wear gloves in order to prevent personal injury.

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the two EGR hoses (1) from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.
2. Remove the two bolts (3) from the EGR valve to the intake manifold.
3. Remove the EGR valve (2) and gasket from the intake manifold.
4. Inspect the EGR passage in the intake manifold for any buildup of deposits. Clean the passage if necessary.
5. Clean the exhaust deposits from the mounting surfaces of the manifold and from around the EGR valve. Look for exhaust debris in the EGR valve outlet. Remove the debris with a screwdriver.

NOTE: Be sure that all loose particles are completely removed in order to prevent the particles from being ingested into the engine or clogging the EGR valve.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the EGR valve and new gasket to the intake manifold.
2. Secure the EGR valve with two bolts and tighten to 14 Nm (10.5 lb ft).
3. Connect the two vacuum hoses to the EGR valve.
