Planetary Gears and Output Shaft Overhaul

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Remove the front planetary gear (1) from the output shaft (2).





2. Remove the following components from the front planetary gear:
^ The rear planetary thrust washer (1)
^ The reverse brake flange
^ The reverse brake plates (4)
^ The reverse plate discs (3)





3. Remove the reverse brake reaction plate (1) from the front planetary gear (2).





4. Remove the following components from the front planetary gear (1):
^ The snap ring (4)
^ The one-way clutch (3)
^ The one-way clutch thrust washer (2)





5. Compress the front planetary gear snap ring (2) while removing the following components:
^ The front planetary ring gear (1)
^ The thrust bearing
^ The rear planetary race





6. Remove the following components from the rear planetary gear:
^ The rear planetary thrust washer (3)
^ The rear planetary gear (2)
^ The rear planetary sun gear (1)





7. Remove the inner shaft snap ring (2).
8. Separate the inner shaft (3) from the rear planetary ring gear (1).
9. Remove the thrust bearing assembly from the rear planetary ring gear.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 36850 Transjel Transmission Assembly Lubricant





1. Install the thrust bearing assembly to the rear planetary ring gear.
2. Lubricate the thrust bearing using J 36850.
3. Install the inner shaft to the rear planetary ring gear.
4. Install the inner shaft snap ring.
5. Install the following rear planetary ring gear components:
^ The rear planetary sun gear (1)
^ The rear planetary gear
^ The rear planetary thrust washer

6. Install the rear planetary thrust bearing and race.
7. Lubricate the bearing and race with J 36850.
8. Compress the snap ring while installing the front planetary ring gear.





9. Install the following one-way clutch components to the front planetary gear:
^ The one-way clutch rear thrust washer
^ The one-way clutch
^ The snap ring

10. Install the reverse brake reaction plate to the front planetary gear.





11. Inspect the front planetary gear operation:
11.1. Hold the reverse brake reaction plate (2) stationary.
11.2. Inspect that the gear locks when turned in the clockwise direction (4).
11.3. Inspect that the gear turns freely in the counter clockwise direction (3).
11.4. If the gear does not operate properly, disassemble and inspect.
12. Install the reverse brake plates and discs in the following order:
12.1. The plate
12.2. The disc
12.3. The plate
12.4. The disc
12.5. The plate
12.6. The disc
12.7. The plate
12.8. The disc
13. Install the reverse brake flange to the front planetary gear with the beveled side down.
14. Install the rear planetary thrust washer to the front planetary gear.
15. Lubricate the washer with J 36850.
16. Install the front planetary gear (1) to the output shaft.
