24. Timing Chain and Sprockets Removal

^ Tools Required
- J 28509-A Crankshaft Sprocket Remover
- J 41371 Reluctor Wheel Remover
- J 8433 Pulley Puller

IMPORTANT: If the crankshaft sensor reluctor ring is removed from the crankshaft, a new crankshaft sensor reluctor ring must be installed.





1. Remove the reluctor ring from the crankshaft using J 41371 and the J 8433.





IMPORTANT: If the sprocket(s) must be replaced, replace both sprockets to ensure that timing chain centerline alignment is maintained.

2. Measure the camshaft timing chain free play (2)
2.1. Align the camshaft timing chain marks.
2.2. Rotate the camshaft sprocket clockwise (1) in order to eliminate any slack (3).
2.3. Measure the camshaft timing chain free play (2). If the chain can be moved back and forth in excess of 16 mm (0.625 inch) the camshaft timing chain and the sprockets must be replaced during assembly.





3. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
4. Remove the camshaft sprocket and the camshaft timing chain.





5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket using J 28509-A.





6. Remove the crankshaft key from the crankshaft keyway, if required.
