Tie Rod End Replacement - Outer (Off Vehicle)
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE- Tools Required
- J 24319-01 Universal Steering Linkage Puller
1. Remove the hexagon torque prevailing nut (3) from outer tie rod stud (1).
2. Remove the tie rod seal (2) from the outer tie rod assembly (1).
3. Loosen the hexagon jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod assembly (1).
4. Remove the outer tie rod assembly (2) from the steering knuckle (1) using J 24319-01.
5. Remove the outer tie rod assembly (3) from the inner tie rod assembly (1).
ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1. Connect the outer tie rod assembly (3) to the inner tie rod (1). Do not tighten the hexagon jam nut (2).
2. Connect the outer tie rod assembly (1) to the steering knuckle (2).
3. Install the tie rod seal (2) to the outer tie rod assembly (1).
4. Connect the hexagon torque prevailing nut (3) to the outer tie rod stud (1).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions
- Tighten the hexagon torque prevailing nut (3) to 00 Nm (00 ft. lbs.).
Adjust toe by turning the inner tie rod. Follow recommended manufacturer specifications; refer to Front Toe Adjustment under Alignment.
IMPORTANT: Be sure the rack and pinion boot is not twisted or puckered during toe adjustment.
5. Tighten
- Tighten the hexagon jam nut against the outer tie rod to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.).
