REAR WHEEL BEARING/HUB

Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 2222-C Wheel Bearing Nut Wrench
- J 8092 Driver Handle
- J 24426 Outer Wheel Bearing Cup Installer
- J 24427 Inner Wheel Bearing Cup Installer
- J 39114-A Axle Shaft Seal Installer





1. Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement (10 1/2 Inch Ring Gear).
4. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
5. Remove the retaining ring (6).
6. Remove the key (5).
7. Remove the adjusting nut (4).
8. Remove the hub (3) from the axle housing (1).
9. Remove the oil seal (2) from the hub (3).
10. Use a drift in order to remove the inner bearing cup.
11. Remove the retaining ring (11) from the hub (3).





12. Remove the outer bearing ring using the J 24426 and the J 8092.





13. Inspect and clean the hub (3).


Installation Procedure





1. Install the outer bearing cup into the hub using the J 8092 and the J 24426.
2. Install the bearing into the bearing cup.





3. Install the retaining ring into the groove.
4. Install the inner bearing cup using the J 8092 and the J 24427
5. Drive the cup into place until the cup sits against the hub shoulder.
6. Install the inner bearing.





Important: Each time you remove the hub, install a new oil seal in order to prevent the hub from leaking.

7. Install the new oil seal (2) using the J 39114-A.
8. Install the hub (3) to the axle housing (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

9. Install the adjusting nut (4) to the hub (3).
^ Tighten the adjusting nut to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.).
10. Adjust the wheel bearings. Refer to Wheel Bearing Adjustment.
11. Install the key (5) to the hub (3).
12. Install the retaining ring (6) to the hub (3).
13. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
14. Install the axle shaft (1). Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement (10 1/2 Inch Ring Gear).
15. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
16. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
