6. External Components Assemble

^ Tools Required
- J 8092 Driver Handle
- J 36370 Drive Gear Needle Bearing Installer
- J 36371 Front And Rear Output Shaft Bearing Installer
- J 36372 Input Gear Bearing Installer (Needle Bearing)
- J 36373 Input Gear Bearing Installer (Ball Bearing)





1. Install the following components into the front case half:
^ The detent plunger
^ The detent spring
^ The O-ring seal
^ The detent plug
^ Tighten the detent plug to 15 Nm (111 ft. lbs.).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the vehicle speed sensor and the O-ring to the rear retainer housing.
^ Tighten the vehicle speed sensor to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the four wheel drive actuator switch and the O-ring to the front case half.
^ Tighten the actuator switch to 24 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the following components:
^ The front output yoke
^ The rubber sealing washer
^ The metal washer
^ The yoke nut
6 Tighten the yoke nut to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.).
5. Use the J 8092 and the J 36372 to insert the needle bearing into the rear case half.
Make sure that the bearing is flush with the boss on the case housing.





6. Use the J 36371 to install the front output bearing into the front case half.
7. Install the front output bearing snap ring into the front case half.





8. Use the J 36371 to install the bearing into the rear retainer housing.
9. Use the J 36372 and the J 8092 to install the mainshaft pilot bearing into the input gear.
10. Install the thrust washer into the planetary carrier.





11. Install the input gear to the planetary carrier snap ring.
12. Use the J 36373 to install the bearing onto the input gear.





13. Install the input bearing to the input gear snap ring.
14. Install the oil seal to the rear extension.
15. Install the input bearing retainer seal to the input bearing retainer.
16. Install the front output shaft seal to the front case half.





17. Install the magnet to the front case half.
