The full size pick-up and utility models above use a common balance weight on all wheels, both steel and aluminum. The correct weight is the coated "T" series balance weight, which in the past was used only on steel wheels. The coated "T" series weight will work on all wheels, which include steel, chrome clad steel and aluminum.
At this time, there are three exceptions to this usage:
- The 2003 Escalade has an optional chrome plated aluminum wheel that uses "MC" series coated balance weights.
- The 2003.5 Silverado 55 20-inch wheel uses "MC" series coated balance weights.
- The 2003 HUMMER H2 uses the "MC" series coated balance weights.
"MC" series weights are used on aluminum wheels on most other GM cars and light duty trucks.
Original equipment balance weights will have a "T" or "MC" molded in the lead. For service, as in production, coated weights must be used to minimize potential cosmetic damage to the wheel. Both "T" and "MC" series weights are available through GMSPO in 1/4 ounce increments as shown in the table below.
Incorrect weights will not fit properly and may result in the weights falling off the wheel and/or cosmetic damage to the wheel.
