Transmission Housing Oil Seal Replacement (Rear Seal Replacement (2WD)

^ Tools Required
- J 8614-01 Yoke Holder
- J 6125-1B Slide Hammer
- J 22834 Extension Housing Seal Installer
- J 23129 Universal Seal Remover
- J 38805 Output Shaft Nut Socket

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
3. Remove the following:
^ Remove the mainshaft nut.
^ Remove the washer.
^ Remove the rubber washer spline seal.
^ Remove the yoke.
4. Remove the rear oil seal from the rear case using the J 6125-B (1) and the J 23129 (2).
5. Remove the rear oil seal from the extension housing.

Installation Procedure





1. Using J22834 install the new rear oil seal into the extension housing.





2. Ensure J 22834 is centered on the seal during installation.





3. Install the following:
^ Install the yoke.
^ Install the rubber washer spline seal.
^ Install the washer.
^ Install the mainshaft nut.





4. Use the J 8614-01 in order to hold the transmission from rotating.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Tighten the main shaft nut.
^ Tighten the main shaft nut to 441 Nm (325 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the rear propeller shaft.
7. Check the transmission oil level.
8. Lower the vehicle.
