Transfer Case Assemble (Continued)





41. Install the oil pump O-ring for the oil pick up tube.





42. Install the oil pump seal





43. Install the oil pump assembly.





44. Install the oil pick up tube assembly.





45. Install the transfer case magnet.





46. Install the oil pump retaining ring.





47. Install the tone wheel.





48. Install the tone wheel retaining ring.





Important: When installing the rear output shaft bearing on the mainshaft, make sure that the groove for the retaining ring is facing up.

49. Install the rear output shaft bearing.





50. Install the rear output shaft bearing retaining ring.
51. Align the outside retaining ring for the rear output shaft bearing so that it easily accessed through the opening in the rear case half.





Important: Make sure that both the sealing surfaces on the front and rear case halves are free of dirt and cleaning solvent.

52. Apply a amount RTV sealant GM P/N 12345739 or the equivalent to the mating surfaces of the front and rear case halves.





53. Lower the rear case half in to place.





54. Using a pair of snap ring pliers, open the retaining ring for the rear output shaft bearing.
55. Push down on the rear case half until the retaining ring is properly seated on the rear output shaft bearing.





56. Install the retaining bolts from the rear case,half to the front case half.
^ Tighten the retaining bolts to 30 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).





57. Install the rubber plug.





58. Install the transfer case shield mounting bracket.





59. Install the transfer case mounting studs to 1.16 to 1.20 inches in height (if removed).





60. Install the speed sensor(s).
^ Tighten the speed sensor to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)





61. Install the front speed sensor.
^ Tighten the speed sensor to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)





Important: The sector must be shifted into the same position as it was when the motor/encoder was removed for proper installation.

62. Install the motor/encoder gasket to the transfer case.
63. Install the motor/encoder to the transfer case
64. Install the mounting bolts for the motor/encoder.
^ Tighten the motor/encoder mounting bolts to 20 Nm (14 ft. lbs.)





Important: When installing the rear output shaft seal, make sure that the drain hole is facing down.

65. Using the J 37668-A, install the rear output shaft bearing in the rear of the transfer case.





66. Using the (2) J 43484 and the (1) J 8092 install the front output shaft seal.





Important: The following service procedure is for the NVG 236 transfer case.

67. Install the J 44636-2 on the transfer case front output shaft.





68. Install the transfer case front output shaft seal on the J 44636-2.





69. Using the J 44636-1, install the transfer case front Output shaft seal.





70. Install the dust seal.





71. Using the J 42738, install the front input shaft seal.
