Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
2. Remove the bolt (1) and the sensor wire harness clip from the engine.
3. Remove the bolt (3) securing the CKP sensor to the engine.




4. Remove the CKP sensor (3) and the wire harness from the engine.
5. Inspect the CKP sensor signal rotor for damaged or missing teeth through the CKP sensor opening.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Do not pinch or damage the CKP sensor wire harness between the engine block and transmission during the transmission installation. Observe that the CKP sensor wire harness remains properly located in the channel provided at the rear of the engine block during the installation.




1. Lubricate the CKP sensor O-ring with clean engine oil.
2. Install the CKP sensor (3) to the engine block.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Secure the CKP sensor to the engine block with the bolt (2).

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




4. Secure the sensor wire harness to the engine block with the clip and the bolt (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

5. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
