Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
^ Replace the O-ring seals exposed during component service In order to reduce the risk Of fire and personal injury that may result from a fuel leak.
^ Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
2. Loosen filler caps to relieve the fuel system pressure.
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector.




5. Clean both fuel pipe connections and surrounding areas at the fuel pump before disconnecting to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
6. Disconnect both fuel pipes from the pump.




7. Slide the pump out of the bracket.
8. Cap the fuel pipes.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Remove the caps from the fuel pipes.
2. Install the new fuel pipe O-rings.
3. Position the new pump in the pump bracket.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




4. Connect the fuel feed pipe and suction pipe to the fuel pump. Use a backup wrench to prevent the pump from turning.

Tighten
Tighten the fittings to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).




5. Connect the electrical connector.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Inspect for fuel leaks.
9.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
9.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
9.3. Turn ON the ignition switch.
9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
