Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 29873 Nozzle Socket

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTE: Use the J 29873 nozzle socket in order to remove the injection nozzle. Use the 30 mm hex portion. Failure to do so will result in damage to the injection nozzle.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
2. Remove the engine cover, if necessary.
3. Remove the fuel line clip.
4. Disconnect the fuel return hoses (1) from the nozzle (2).
5. Disconnect the fuel injection line.
6. Cap the nozzle and the lines.




7. Use the J 29873 in order to remove the injection nozzle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Use the J 29873 nozzle socket in order to remove the injection nozzle. Use the 30 mm hex portion. Failure to do so will result in damage to the injection nozzle.




1. Apply an anti seize compound to the threads of the nozzle that contact the cylinder.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the injection nozzle using the J 29873.

Tighten
Tighten the nozzle to 70 N.m (52 lb ft).

3. Connect the fuel injection line.

Tighten
Tighten the line nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




4. Connect the fuel return hoses (1) on the nozzle (2).
5. Install the fuel line clip.
6. Connect the negative battery cables.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that the PCM electrical harness is properly routed to avoid contact with the engine cover during installation.

7. Install the engine cover.
