Rear Axle Housing Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle)

Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the steering gear protection shield.
3. Remove the axle lubricant.
4. Remove the rear axle assembly.
5. Remove the steering knuckles.
6. Remove the axle shafts.
7. Remove the differential.
8. Remove the drive pinion shaft yoke and the pinion oil seal.
9. Remove the drive pinion and the outer pinion bearing.
10. Remove the pinion bearing cups.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the pinion bearing cups.
2. Install the drive pinion outer pinion bearing and the pinion oil seal.
3. Install the drive pinion.
4. Install the pinion yoke.
5. Install the differential case.
6. Adjust the side bearing preload.
7. Adjust the backlash.
8. Perform a gear tooth contact pattern check.
9. Install the axle shafts.
10. Install the steering knuckles.
11. Install the rear axle.
12. Install the steering gear protection shield.
13. Fill the axle with lubricant.
14. Lower the vehicle.
