Lengthening of Oil Level Switch Wiring Harness After Lower Oil Pan Replacement
Models:
2001-2003 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Models
2001-2003 GMC Sierra Pickup Models
with 6.6L Duramax(R) Diesel Engine (VIN 1 - RPO LB7)
When replacing the lower oil pan on the above vehicles for any reason, the technician may notice that the wiring harness for the oil level switch is too short. A change was made to the location of the oil level switch location during the 2003 model year. This change also affects the parts supplied for service.
The wiring harness for the oil level switch should be lengthened to correct this condition using the following procedure.
Procedure
1. Unplug the oil level switch at the production location (5) and replace the lower oil pan using Service Manual procedures.
2. Cut off the existing oil level switch connector as close to the connector as possible.
3. Extend the oil level switch harness approximately 95 mm (3.74 in) using P/N 12085491, replacement connector. The replacement connector comes with approximately 400 mm (16 in) of wire. Be sure to follow proper Service Manual procedures for wiring repairs when splicing in the new connector.
4. Relocate the harness clip from the production location (1) to the revised location (3)
5. Route the modified harness (2) through the relocated harness clip (3) and to the new oil level switch location (4).
