34a. Electric Machine Clean and Inspect

Electric Machine Cleaning and Inspection





1. Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Service Precautions.

Clean the flexplate, stator and rotor with compressed air.
2. Inspect the flexplate (1) for stress cracks around the flexplate-to-rotor bolt hole locations.
3. Inspect the stator for the following conditions:
^ Rust or corrosion at the electrical terminal connection or the electrical windings (2 and 3)
^ Scoring or gouging in the electrical winding surfaces (3)
^ Bent or damaged stator
^ Damage to the exterior of the housing and/or coolant jacket

4. Inspect the rotor for the following conditions:
^ Rust or corrosion of the electrical windings (4)
^ Scoring or gouging in the electrical winding surfaces
^ Bent or damaged rotor
^ Stress cracks around the rotor-to-crankshaft bolt hole locations (5)

5. Inspect the electrical terminal studs and the electrical connection for corrosion.
