Luggage Compartment Description and Operation

Rear Liftgate Release

The liftgate can be released by operating the liftgate release switch or pressing the liftgate release button on the key fob. The gear selector may be in any position, but vehicle speed must equal 0 for the liftgate to release.


When the liftgate release switch button is depressed, the liftgate release switch signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) is grounded. In response, the BCM grounds the coil side of the liftgate release relay through the liftgate release relay control circuit. With ground applied to the coil side of the relay, voltage is applied to the liftgate door latch, releasing the liftgate.
