Starter Motor: Service and Repair
STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the starter solenoid nut (4).
4. Remove the positive/negative battery cable (3) terminal from the starter.
5. Remove the engine harness terminal (4) from the starter.
6. Remove the starter solenoid "S" terminal nut (6).
7. Remove the engine harness terminal (5) from the starter solenoid.
8. Remove the starter bolts.
9. Remove the starter.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Position the starter to the engine.
2. Install the starter bolts.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the bolts to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).
3. Install the engine harness terminal (5) to the starter solenoid.
4. Install the starter solenoid "S" terminal nut (6).
Tighten the nut to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
5. Install the engine harness terminal (4) to the starter.
6. Install the positive/negative battery cable (3) terminal to the starter.
7. Install the starter solenoid nut (4).
Tighten the nut to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
