Fuel Return Line: Service and Repair



FUEL HOSE/PIPES REPLACEMENT - CHASSIS

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe from the fuel rail.
3. Cap or plug the fuel pipe and the engine fuel rail to prevent contamination.




4. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe from the purge solenoid.
5. Cap or plug the EVAP pipe in order to prevent contamination.
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
7. Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister, if necessary.
8. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting.




9. Remove the brake lines from the fuel/EVAP/brake line brackets.
10. Remove the fuel/EVAP/brake line bracket nuts and remove the brackets from the body studs.
11. Remove the fuel and EVAP lines from the vehicle.
12. Open the brackets and remove the fuel feed pipe.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the fuel feed pipe to the brackets and close the covers.
2. Install the fuel and EVAP lines to the vehicle.
3. Install the fuel/EVAP/brake line bracket to the body studs.
4. Install the fuel/EVAP/brake line bracket nuts.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice.

Tighten the nuts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

5. Install the brake lines to the fuel/EVAP/brake line brackets.




6. Connect the fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting.
7. Install the canister, if necessary.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Remove the cap or plug from the EVAP pipe.
10. Connect the EVAP pipe to the purge solenoid.




11. Remove the cap or plug from the fuel pipe and the engine fuel rail.
12. Connect the fuel feed pipe to the fuel rail.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedure:
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
