Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Support Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the left and right seats from the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement (Seat Replacement) in Seats.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
3. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
4. Disconnect only the compressor hose assembly at the thermal expansion valve. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
5. Remove the heater inlet and outlet hoses. Refer to Heater Hose Replacement - Inlet and Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
6. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .




7. Remove the 2 left top cross car beam fasteners.




8. Remove the 2 right top cross car beam fasteners.




9. Remove the 2 lower cross car beam fasteners (1) located in front of the floor console.

Notice: To avoid paint damage, protect the area surrounding the part which you are removing or installing.

10. Apply tape to the door to protect the paint.




11. Remove the 4 left and right hinge pillar fasteners.




12. Remove the 4 fasteners retaining the modular plate to the cross car beam.




13. From the engine compartment, remove 1 fastener (1) from the modular plate inboard from the cowl wiring grommet at the 9 o'clock position.




14. Located to the right of the steering column, disconnect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) from the I/P cross car beam.




15. Located above the steering column, disconnect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) from the I/P cross car beam.




16. Located near the radio, disconnect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) from the I/P cross car beam.




17. Located near the HVAC module, disconnect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) from the I/P cross car beam.




18. Remove the splice pack fastener (1) from the cross car beam.
19. Remove the splice pack from the cross car beam.




20. Disconnect the brake switch electrical connector.
21. Remove the retainer (1) from the brake booster rod.




22. Remove the rod (1) from the brake pedal arm.




23. Disconnect the in-line connector to the antenna coaxial cable.




24. Disconnect the recirculation mode actuator (1) connector.
25. Disconnect the evaporator temperature sensor (2) electrical connector.
26. Disconnect the air temperature door actuator (3) electrical connector.
27. Disconnect the mode actuator (4) electrical connector.




28. Disconnect the blower motor (1) and resistor (2) electrical connectors.




29. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) to the accelerator switch.
30. Remove the hazard switch from the cross car beam. Refer to Hazard and Turn Signal Flasher Replacement in Lighting Systems.




31. One at a time, route the following through the I/P cross car beam structure:

* Headlamp connector
* SIR connector
* Splice pack
* Data link connector
* Hazard flasher
* 48-way steering column wiring harness





32. With the aid of an assistant, carefully remove the I/P cross car beam structure from the vehicle.
33. If replacing the I/P cross car beam, remove the HVAC module from the I/P cross car beam structure. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement .



Installation Procedure





1. If replacing the I/P cross car beam, install the HVAC module from the I/P cross car beam structure. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement .
2. With the aid of an assistant, carefully install the I/P cross car beam structure into the vehicle.




3. One at a time, route the following through the I/P cross car beam structure:

* Headlamp connector
* SIR connector
* Splice pack
* Data link connector
* Hazard flasher
* 48-way steering column wiring harness





4. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the accelerator switch.
5. Install the hazard switch to the cross car beam. Refer to Hazard and Turn Signal Flasher Replacement in Lighting Systems.




6. Connect the blower motor (1) and resistor (2) electrical connectors.




7. Connect the recirculation mode actuator (1) connector.
8. Connect the evaporator temperature sensor (2) electrical connector.
9. Connect the air temperature door actuator (3) electrical connector.
10. Connect the mode actuator (4) electrical connector.




11. Connect the in-line connector to the antenna coaxial cable.




12. Install the rod (1) to the brake pedal arm.




13. Install the retainer (1) to the brake booster rod.
14. Connect the brake switch electrical connector.




15. Install the splice pack to the cross car beam.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

16. Install the splice pack fastener (1) to the cross car beam.

Tighten the fastener to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).





17. Located to the right of the steering column, connect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) to the I/P cross car beam.




18. Located above the steering column, connect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) to the I/P cross car beam.




19. Located near the radio, connect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) to the I/P cross car beam.




20. Located near the HVAC module, connect the I/P wiring harness attachment (1) to the I/P cross car beam.




21. From the engine compartment, install 1 fastener (1) to the modular plate inboard from the cowl wiring grommet at the 9 o'clock position.

Tighten the fasteners to 36 N.m (27 lb ft).

22. Install the 4 fasteners retaining the modular plate to the cross car beam.

Tighten the fasteners to 36 N.m (27 lb ft).


Notice: To avoid paint damage, protect the area surrounding the part which you are removing or installing.

23. Apply tape to the door to protect the paint.




24. Install the 4 the left and right hinge pillar fasteners.

Tighten the fasteners to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).





25. Install the 2 lower cross car beam fasteners (1) located in front of the floor console.

Tighten the fasteners to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).





26. Install the 2 right top cross car beam fasteners.

Tighten the fasteners to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).





27. Install the 2 left top cross car beam fasteners.

Tighten the fasteners to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

28. Install the I/P carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
29. Install the heater inlet and outlet hoses. Refer to Heater Hose Replacement - Inlet and Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
30. Connect only the compressor hose assembly at the thermal expansion valve. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
31. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
32. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
33. Install the left and right seats in the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement (Seat Replacement) in Seats.
