Battery Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the spare tire.
3. Open the positive battery cable cover (2).
4. Loosen the positive battery cable nut (1).
5. Remove the positive battery cable from the battery.
6. Disconnect the battery vent tube from the battery.
7. Remove the battery hold down retainer bolts.
8. Remove the battery hold down retainers.
Note: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during removal.
9. Remove the battery.
Installation Procedure
Note: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during battery installation.
1. Install the battery.
2. Install the battery hold down retainers.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install the battery hold down retainer bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
Note: Replacement batteries may require the vent plug in the battery vent hole to be moved from one end of the battery to the other to permit vent tube installation per original design.
4. Connect the battery vent tube to the battery.
5. Install the positive battery cable from the battery.
6. Tighten the positive battery cable nut (1) to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
7. Close the positive battery cable cover (2).
8. Install the spare tire.
9. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
