Condition

Some customers may comment that the paint is chipped in front of the rear wheels. Some customers may also comment about damage to the lower rear door and rear rocker panels.

Cause

The rocker and lower door areas may be damaged by road debris thrown up by the tires at highway speeds.

Correction

Important
It may be necessary to perform the following repair in order to meet customer expectations and gain their product satisfaction.

1. Refinish the lower door and rocker panel. For the proper refinish materials to use, refer to the 2010 GMW15406 GM Globally Approved Refinish Materials information. The refinish materials information is now online at www.gmgoodwrench.com. Printed books have been discontinued. To access the website, follow these steps:

1. Go to www.gmgoodwrench.com.
2. Select: For Body Shops & Services, link at the bottom of the page.
3. Select: GM Technical Repair Information.
4. Select: Paint Shop tab.
5. Select: The applicable downloadable link of the GM Approved Refinish Materials Guide.

2. Advise the customer that this type of chipping will only be repaired one time at GM's expense. If the customer drives on roads that are especially debris-laden, this type of chipping may return. Please advise the customer that GM running boards have been found to effectively block the debris path and may dramatically reduce this type of paint chipping. Installation of running boards is to be performed at customer cost.
