DTC C0280

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions)provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC C0280 00
- Stability System Active Too Long

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction when vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) brake intervention is active for more than an excessive amount of time.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Ignition is ON.
* The ignition voltage is above 10 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The EBCM detects VSES is active for more than 15 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* The VSES functionality is disabled
* A driver information center message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
* The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

For non-SS models, an improperly centered steering angle sensor may cause this DTC to set with a known good yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor. Test drive the vehicle while observing the scan tool Steering Wheel Position parameter to ensure that the steering angle is 0° when driving the vehicle in a straight line. If the parameter reads 0°, the automatic offset learning may have adjusted up to 15° without setting another DTC. Perform the scan tool, Steering Pos. Sensor Calibration procedure.

Circuit/System Verification

Note: Verify the EBCM/VSES, Yaw Rate Sensor Input is 0.0° per second data for a stationary vehicle parked on a level surface. If greater than 2.0° per second or less than -2.0° per second this may indicate a failure in the yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor.

1. Verify that DTC C0460 is not set as current.

If the DTC is set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle (Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle).

2. Verify that DTC C0280 is not set as current.

If the DTC is set, clear the DTC with a scan tool, and operate the vehicle within the conditions for setting the DTC. If the DTC resets, replace the yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor.

Repair Instructions
