Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The Run, ON, and START Power signals connect the serial data gateway module along with numerous other modules to the vehicle 12-volt system through a fused relay in the fuse block - underhood. This relay is closed by the Body Control Module (BCM) based on the key being in either the RUN or START position.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition voltage is between 9-16 V.

B1453 01

The ignition switch is in the ACC position.

B1453 06

The ignition switch is in the RUN position.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B1453 01

The RUN, ON, and START circuits are greater than 2.5 volts.

B1453 06

The RUN, ON, and START circuits are less than 2.5 volts.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC B1453 is a Type C DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC B1453 is a Type C DTC.

B1453 01

The RUN, ON, and START circuits are less than 2.5 volts.

B1453 06

The RUN, ON, and START circuits are more than 2.5 volts.

Diagnostic Aids

Many controllers such as the drive motor generator power inverter module, transmission control module (TCM), and inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module will set a DTC for a problem with the RUN, ON, and START power voltage circuits. Confirm that they do not have DTCs before only investigating the serial data gateway module.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K56 serial data gateway module, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the ignition circuit terminal 20 and ground.

If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit terminal 20 for a short to voltage.

2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 20 and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

3. If all circuits test normal, replace the K56 serial data gateway module.

Repair Instructions
