Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill
Draining Procedure
Warning
When the transmission is at operating temperatures, take necessary precautions when removing the check/fill plug, to avoid being burned by draining fluid.
Note: The fluid plug at the front of transmission may not be opened.
Previous to the removing any plug, clean the surrounding area of this plug.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement.
Note: Service may offer plugs that are not microencapsulated. If this is the case apply thread lock agent to the plug. If the plug is microencapsulated, install a NEW transmission fluid plug. DO NOT re-use the old plug.
3. Remove and DISCARD the fluid drain plug (1).
4. Drain the transmission fluid into a suitable and clean container.
Note: This transmission is NOT equipped with a fluid level checking device. The fluid level can only be checked by draining and filling procedure.
5. Let the transmission fluid run out for 10 minutes and compare the transmission fluid amount to the required fluid level. Refer to Manual Transmission Specifications Manual Transmission Specifications. If necessary, fill up the amount with the correct transmission fluid to the proper level in order to assure correct transmission fluid level.
6. Check the collected transmission oil for burnt oil exhalation, metal chips and other foreign bodies. If this the fact, search for the reason caused by the transmission.
7. Re-cut the transmission drain hole thread.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
8. Install the NEW fluid drain plug (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
9. Install the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement.
Filling Procedure
1. Lower the vehicle.
2. Without disconnecting the electrical connector, unclip the engine control module with the bracket from the battery tray and hang aside. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Remove the fluid fill plug (1).
Note: This transmission is NOT equipped with a fluid level checking device. The fluid level can only be checked by draining and filling procedure.
4. Fill the transmission to the proper level, refer to Manual Transmission Specifications Manual Transmission Specifications , with the correct fluid.
5. Install the fluid fill plug (1) and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
6. Clip in the engine control module. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement Service and Repair.
Fluid Level Check
The transmission fluid level can NOT be checked using a fluid checking device. Check the transmission fluid level exclusively using the draining and filling procedure.
