Trailer Brake Control Module Replacement (3500 Chassis Cab)

Removal Procedure

1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.

Note: Do not remove the spare wheel hoist.

2. Remove the spare tire and wheel assembly, if necessary. Refer to Spare Wheel Hoist Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.




4. Loosen, but do not remove, the trailer brake control module bracket bolts (1).
5. Disconnect the trailer brake control module and relay electrical connectors.




6. Slide the trailer brake control module and bracket assembly (1) toward the right side of the vehicle.
7. Remove the trailer brake control module and bracket assembly




8. Loosen, but do not remove, the 3 trailer brake control module bolts (1).




9. Slide the trailer brake control module (1) to remove the module from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

1. If installing a new trailer brake control module, partially install the 3 trailer brake control module bolts.




2. Install the trailer brake control module (1) to the bracket.
3. Slide the trailer brake control module in the bracket until the module bolts are resting against the back of the bracket slotted holes.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Tighten the 3 trailer brake control module bolts (1) to 6 Nm (53 lb in).




5. Install the trailer brake control module and bracket assembly to the frame.
6. Slide the trailer brake control module and bracket assembly (1) fully into the slotted holes of the vehicle frame.




7. Tighten the trailer brake control module bracket bolts (1) to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
8. Connect the trailer brake control module and relay electrical connectors.

Note: Do not remove the spare wheel hoist.

9. Install the spare tire and wheel assembly, if necessary. Refer to Spare Wheel Hoist Replacement Service and Repair.
10. If installing a new trailer brake control module, program the module. Refer to Control Module References Control Module References.
