Headlining Trim Panel Replacement (SWB w/CF5 and U42)

Warning

Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

Caution: Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

Caution: If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

Removal Procedure




1. Disable the roof rail SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
2. Remove the front assist handle. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement Front Assist Handle Replacement.
3. Remove the windshield garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement.
4. Remove the sunshade assembly and the sunshade retainers. Refer to Sunshade Replacement Sunshade Replacement.
5. Remove the roof console assembly. Refer to Roof Console Replacement Roof Console Replacement.
6. Remove the front door sill plate. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement Front Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement.
7. Remove the rear door sill plate. Refer to Rear Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement (Standard Wheelbase) Rear Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement (Standard Wheelbase)Rear Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement (Extended Wheelbase) Rear Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement (Extended Wheelbase).
8. Remove the center pillar lower molding. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement.
9. Remove the center pillar upper molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
10. Remove the lock pillar molding. 11. Remove the back body opening molding. Refer to Rear Door Upper Garnish Molding Replacement Rear Door Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
12. Remove the body rear corner upper molding. 13. Remove the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement Service and Repair.
14. Remove the sunroof panel window molding. Refer to Sunroof Panel/Window Garnish Molding Replacement (Crew Cab) Service and Repair.
15. Remove the rear overhead console. Refer to Video Display Replacement (Second Row) Video Display Replacement (Second Row)Video Display Replacement (Third Row) Video Display Replacement (Third Row).
16. Place the rear seats in the stowed position.
17. Remove the front seat headrest.
18. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Except Cadillac) Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel ReplacementInstrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Cadillac) Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement.
19. Remove the roof assist handles. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement Front Assist Handle Replacement and Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement.
20. Remove the front seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket (with HP2) Front Seat Replacement - BucketFront Seat Replacement - Bucket (without HP2) Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.
21. Remove the second row right seat. Refer to Rear Seat Replacement (Avalanche/Escalade EXT) Rear Seat Replacement (Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade with Split Bench) Rear Seat Replacement (With Split Bench)Rear Seat Replacement (Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade with Bucket Seat) Rear Seat Replacement (With Bucket Seat).

23. Disconnect the electrical harness retainers from the windshield pillars.
24. Disconnect the electrical harness from the BEC under the steering column. Route the wires out.
25. Remove the right side rear quarter trim. 26. Remove the rearview mirror trim and disconnect the electrical connectors. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement.
27. Remove the sunshade anchor. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement Sunshade Anchor Replacement.
28. Note routing of the wire harness and remove the headliner trim panel assembly (3).

Installation Procedure





Note: When installing a new headliner, tape any unused connector to the headliner with a high adhesive tape.

1. Install the headliner trim panel assembly (3).
2. Install the sunshade anchor. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement Sunshade Anchor Replacement.
3. Install the rearview mirror trim and connect the electrical connectors. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement.
4. Install the right side rear quarter trim. Refer to Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Extended Wheelbase) Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Extended Wheelbase)Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Standard Wheelbase) Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Standard Wheelbase).
5. Connect the electrical harness to the BEC under the steering column.
6. Connect the electrical harness retainers to the windshield pillars.
7. Install the third row right seat. Refer to Rear Number 2 Seat Replacement (Suburban/Yukon XL) Rear Number 2 Seat ReplacementRear Number 2 Seat Replacement (Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade) Rear Number 2 Seat Replacement.
8. Install the second row right seat. Refer to Rear Seat Replacement (Avalanche/Escalade EXT) Rear Seat Replacement (Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade with Split Bench) Rear Seat Replacement (With Split Bench)Rear Seat Replacement (Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade with Bucket Seat) Rear Seat Replacement (With Bucket Seat).
9. Install the front seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket (with HP2) Front Seat Replacement - BucketFront Seat Replacement - Bucket (without HP2) Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.
10. Install the roof assist handles. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement Front Assist Handle Replacement and Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement.
11. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Except Cadillac) Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel ReplacementInstrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Cadillac) Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement.
12. Install the front seat headrest.

14. Install the sunroof panel window molding. Refer to Sunroof Panel/Window Garnish Molding Replacement (Crew Cab) Service and Repair.
15. Install the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement Service and Repair.
16. Install the body rear corner upper molding. Refer to Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Right Side Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Right Side and Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Left Side (With E61) Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Left Side (With E61)Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Left Side (Without E61) Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Left Side (Without E61).
17. Install the back body opening molding. Refer to Rear Door Upper Garnish Molding Replacement Rear Door Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
18. Install the lock pillar molding. 19. Install the center pillar upper molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
20. Install the center pillar lower molding. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement.
21. Install the rear door sill plate. 22. Install the front door sill plate. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement Front Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement.
23. Install the roof console assembly. Refer to Roof Console Replacement Roof Console Replacement.
24. Install the sunshade assembly and the sunshade retainers. Refer to Sunshade Replacement Sunshade Replacement.
25. Install the windshield garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement.
26. Install the front assist handle. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement Front Assist Handle Replacement.
27. Enable the roof rail SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
