DTC Descriptor
DTC P0230
- Fuel Pump Control Output Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM) supplies voltage to the fuel pump control module when the ECM detects that the ignition is on. The voltage from the ECM to the fuel pump control module remains active for 2 seconds, unless the engine is in crank or run. While this voltage is being received, the fuel pump control module supplies a varying voltage to the fuel tank pump module in order to maintain the desired fuel rail pressure.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The ignition voltage is greater than 11 V.
* DTC P0230 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The control module detects that the commanded state of the driver and the actual state of the control circuit do not match for greater than 2 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTC P0230 is a Type B DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC
DTC P0230 is a Type B DTC.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition OFF, open the hood to disable the Auto-Stop function. Refer to Hybrid Modes of Operation Description Hybrid Modes of Operation Description.
2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool hood position parameter displays Open.
• If the hood position does not display Open, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle for DTC P254F.
3. Ignition ON, command the fuel pump ON and OFF with a scan tool while observing the following control circuit status parameters:
* Fuel Pump Speed Ckt Short Gnd Test Status
* Fuel Pump Speed Ckt Open Test Status
* Fuel Pump Speed Ckt Short Volts Test Status
* Each parameter should display OK or Not Run
4. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the FPCM.
2. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 13 and ground.
3. Ignition ON, command the fuel pump relay ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
• If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
• If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
4. If all circuits test normal, replace the FPCM.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the diagnostic procedure.
