Transmission Fluid Filler Tube and Seal Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Unlock the transmission oil level indicator.

2. Remove the transmission oil level indicator.

3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

4. Support the transmission using a suitable jack.

5. Remove the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 2500/3500 Series) Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 1500 Series) Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 1500 Series) Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 2500/3500 Series) .





6. Loosen the left exhaust pipe nuts.





7. Loosen the right exhaust pipe nuts.





8. Remove the transmission heat shield.

9. Lower the transmission slightly.





10. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection Service and Repair.

11. Plug the transmission oil cooler line fittings.





12. Remove the indicator tube nut.





13. Remove the indicator tube bolt, if equipped with RPO HP2.





14. Remove the oil level indicator tube.

15. Remove the seal from the transmission, if necessary.





16. Remove the oil level indicator tube, if equipped with RPO HP2.

17. Remove the seal from the transmission, if necessary.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a NEW seal to the indicator tube.

2. Install the oil level indicator tube, if equipped with RPO HP2.





3. Install a NEW seal to the indicator tube.

4. Install the oil level indicator tube.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

5. Install the indicator tube bolt, if equipped with RPO HP2, and tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb ft).





6. Install the indicator tube nut and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).





7. Remove the plugs from the transmission oil cooler line fittings.

8. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection Service and Repair.





9. Install the transmission heat shield. Tighten the bolts to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).





10. Tighten the right exhaust pipe nuts to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).





11. Tighten the left exhaust pipe nuts to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).

12. Install the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 2500/3500 Series) Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 1500 Series) Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 1500 Series) Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 2500/3500 Series) .

13. Remove the support from the transmission.

14. Lower the vehicle.





15. Install the transmission oil level indicator.

16. Lock the transmission oil level indicator.
