Output Seal & Flange
REMOVAL1. Mark rear cover to case for installation alignment.
2. Remove rear cover attaching bolts, then remove.
3. Remove output flange attaching nut.
4. Mark pinion to flange for installation alignment.
5. Using suitable hydraulic press, press output flange from pinion.
6. Using suitable hammer and chisel, remove output seal.
7. If output flange is replaced a new shim is required.
INSTALLATION
1. Using seal tool No. 5049 or equivalent, install seal.
2. If original flange is used, align marks, then press flange on pinion.
3. If new flange is used select shim as follows:
a. Shim must protrude from new output flange the same distance as original.
b. Position original flange and shim on end with shim side up.
c. Place straightedge across shim.
d. Using suitable feeler gauge, measure distance between straightedge and top of flange, record distance.
e. Repeat steps b through d for new flange and original shim, record measurement.
f. If measurements between new and original are not same, then use new shim that will protrude the same amount that original shim protruded.
4. Install flange nut, torque to 120 ft. lbs.
5. Install rear cover, torque attaching bolts to 250 inch lbs. Use care not to damage O-ring.
6. Install propeller shaft, torque to 250 inch lbs.
7. Check and fill fluids as required.
