Repair Procedure 2

1. Using the procedures outlined on page 23-27 of the 1996 Town & Country, Caravan and Voyager Service Manual Supplement (Publication No. 81-370-6105A), remove the sliding door interior trim panel.

2. If the outside handle link and/or the latch release link is disconnected or loosely connected at the control lever clips (slips through clip during operation), continue to step 4.

3. Check and adjust as necessary, the outside handle link, inside handle bellcrank link and latch release link adjustments.

a. The outside handle link is not adjusted properly if the control levers do not begin to rotate immediately as the outside handle is pulled (the outside handle link clip MUST be at the bottom of the lever slot for proper function).

b. The inside bellcrank link is not adjusted properly if the control levers do not begin to rotate immediately as the inside handle button is pushed (the inside bellcrank link clip MUST be at the top of the lever slot for proper function).

c. To adjust the latch release link properly, the link MUST be moved rearward to the end of its travel before attaching it to the latch/lock control clip.

d. Open the sliding door with the outside handle to determine if the door functions properly. If door will not open properly, continue to step 4.

NOTE:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BEND THE CLIPS TO RETAIN THE LINKS, REPLACE THE CONTROL ASSEMBLY.

4. If any of the (3) metal clips on the sliding door control assembly are bent, broken or loose, replace the control assembly **and if the vehicle was built prior to Apr. 15, 1996 (MDH 0415XX) also replace the latch release link** with appropriate part numbers listed in the Parts Required section of this bulletin. Use the procedures outlined starting on REVISED page 23-32 (revision distributed in Technical Service Bulletin 26-06-96 dated June, 1996) of the 1996 Town & Country, Caravan and Voyager Service Manual Supplement (Publication No. 81-370-6105A).

NOTE:
IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRANSFER THE ORIGINAL POWER DOOR LOCK MOTOR TO THE REPLACEMENT CONTROL ASSEMBLY.

Open the sliding door with the outside handle to determine if the door functions properly. If door will not open properly, continue to step 5.

5. Replace the latch assembly with the appropriate part number listed in the Parts Required section of this bulletin. Use the procedures outlined starting on REVISED page 23-33 (revision distributed in Technical Service Bulletin 26-06-96 dated June, 1996) of the 1996 Town & Country, Caravan and Voyager Service Manual Supplement (Publication No. 81-370-6105A).
