Installation
The content of this article reflects changes called for in TSB 26-04-96.
1. Using fine emery cloth or other suitable abrasive, clean rust and dirt from shoe contact surfaces on backing plate.
2. Lubricate backing plate shoe contact pads with Mopar Brake Lubricant (P/N 4796269).
Park Brake Actuator Plate.:
3. Install park brake actuator plate onto leading brake shoe.
4. Attach leading brake shoe to backing plate with hold-down pin and spring clip.
Park Brake Actuating Strut.:
5. Install park brake actuating strut to leading brake shoe and to park brake actuating lever.
6. Install automatic adjuster assembly onto leading shoe. Ensure automatic adjuster and park brake actuating strut are in proper contact with actuator plate.
7. Install park brake actuating lever onto trailing shoe.
8. Attach trailing shoe to backing plate with hold-down pin and spring clip.
9. Install upper shoe to shoe spring, then the tension clip to spring and automatic adjuster assembly. Ensure tension clip is installed on threaded portion of adjuster assembly.
10. Install lower shoe to shoe spring, then the automatic adjuster lever and spring. Ensure adjuster lever is in contact with star wheel.
11. Remove locking pliers from front parking brake cable and allow parking brake system to auto adjust.
12. Install drums and retaining nuts if equipped.
13. Install rear wheels and tighten wheel lug nuts to specification.
14. Adjust brakes as outlined under Drum Brake System/Adjustments.
