Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Description and Operation

Fuel Delivery System:

PURPOSE
Sequential port Fuel Injection (SFI), system, supplies engine with sufficient amount filtered fuel at correct pressure.

OPERATION
A returnless fuel system is used on all vehicles. Fuel is returned through the fuel pump module and back to the fuel tank. A separate fuel return line from the tank to the engine is no longer used.

Electric pump pushes fuel through in line filter, to fuel rail, injectors (6), and pressure regulator.

Vacuum assisted regulator maintains pressure at injectors by allowing excess fuel to return to tank via return line.

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls fuel flow through injector by varying injector pulse width.

CONSTRUCTION
Fuel Delivery system consists of fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel rail, fuel injectors (6), and fuel pressure regulator.
