To: All Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers

Subject:
Emissions Recall # 7591 and # 7592 -- VECI Label Replacement

Models:
1998 Model Year Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan; and Chrysler Town & Country (NS) All Wheel Drive (AWD) Minivans Equipped With a 3.8L Engine ("L" in the 8th VIN Position) Built at the St. Louis South Assembly Plant ("B" in the 11th VIN Position):

^ Through November 10, 1997 (MDH 111007) With a Federal Emission Control System (Sales Code --NAA)-- Recall # 7591

^ Through November 7, 1997 (MDH 110717) With a California Emission Control System (Sales Code -- NAE)-- Recall # 7592

The wrong Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label was installed on about 5,000 of the above listed vehicles. A California VECI label was installed on vehicles equipped with a Federal emission control system, and a Federal VECI label was installed on California vehicles. The VECI label is often used during in-use inspection and maintenance (I/M) testing to verify proper emissions related components. As a result, an incorrect label may cause the vehicle to fail an emissions test. To correct this condition, a new VECI label must be installed.

Replacement labels are being mailed directly to owners. The owners are requested to install the labels themselves or, if preferred, to arrange for dealer installation of the owner-supplied label without charge.
