Campaign - Owners Manual Correction: Overview
March 2000Customer Satisfaction Notification No. 856
OWNER'S Manual Correction
Models
2000 (NS) Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan/Grand
Caravan and Plymouth Voyager/Grand Voyager
NOTE:
This notification applies only to the above vehicles built at either the Windsor assembly plant ("R" in the 11th VIN position) through October 12, 1999 (MDH 101223) or the St. Louis assembly plant ("B" in the 11th VIN position) through October 15, 1999 (MDH 101521).
IMPORTANT:
Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer vehicle inventory.
Dealers should complete this repair on these vehicles before retail delivery.
Dealers should also perform this repair on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the DIAL VIP System.
Subject
The Owner's Manual in about 135,000 of the above vehicles contains a statement that was included inadvertently. This statement indicates that the above vehicles are equipped with a Brake/Transmission Interlock. This is incorrect. There is no device on these vehicles that requires the brake pedal to be depressed before the transmission can be shifted from the park position. It is a safe driving practice to always depress the brake pedal before the transmission is shifted into a drive gear from either the neutral or park position.
Repair
A self-sticking label with the correct information must be placed over the incorrect statement in the Owner's Manual.
The labels are being mailed directly to all owners known to DaimlerChrysler with the owner notification letter. The owners are requested to install the label themselves.
Parts Information
Each involved dealer to whom vehicles in this notification were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same street address) will receive enough labels for 100 % of their unsold vehicles.
If an owner's label is lost, or if dealers require more labels for inventory vehicles, additional labels may be ordered as needed.

Dealer Notification and Vehicle List
All dealers will receive a copy of this Customer Satisfaction Notification letter by mail. Two additional copies will be sent through the DCMMS, and the MD52 will be updated to include this Customer Satisfaction Notification in the near future.
Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same street address) will receive a list of their involved vehicles. The vehicle list is arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Daimlerchrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for correction of the Owner's Manual of involved vehicles.
DIAL Systems Function 53 and VIP
All involved vehicles will be entered to DIAL System Functions 53 and VIP at the time of notification implementation for dealer inquiry as needed.
Function 53 provides involved dealers with an updated VIN list of their incomplete vehicles. The customer name, address and phone number are listed if known. Completed vehicles are removed from Function 53 within several days of repair claim submission. To use this system, type "53" at the "ENTER FUNCTION" prompt, then type "0RD856".
Owner Notification
All involved vehicle owners known to DaimlerChrysler are being notified by mail. A copy of the owner letter is attached.
