Transmission Control Systems: Application and ID

These diagnostic procedures cover 2000 Chrysler Town and Country, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Grand Caravan, Plymouth Voyager, Plymouth Grand Voyager vehicles with a 41 TE/AE Automatic Transaxle. The transaxle can be identified by an identification code printed on a label on the transaxle bell housing. If the unit is remanufactured, the tag is destroyed and x-ed out and a new tag is installed by the transmission remanufacturing company.
The alpha-numeric code used to identify the 41 TE Transaxle can be broken down as follows:
4 = Four speed, T = Transverse mounted, 1 = Torque Capacity, E = Electronically controlled, A = All-wheel Drive
The hydraulic/mechanical part of the transaxle consists of the following:
^ Three multiple disc input clutches
^ Two multiple disc grounded clutches
^ Four hydraulic accumulators
^ Two planetary gear sets
^ Hydraulic pump
^ Valve body
^ Solenoid pack
The hydraulics of the transaxle provide shift select functions, main line pressure regulation, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) and cooler flow control.
The electronics of the transaxle consist of various input sensors and output devices which, when working in unison with the hydraulic/mechanical portion of the system, provide for optimum shifting, adaptive controls and information about system faults that may occur.
